Halcyon Gallery – Paricio • Picasso

Picasso Halcyon Gallery printed exterior graphics London

We worked with one of our favourite galleries, the Halcyon Gallery, who  specialize in modern and contemporary art, to produce the signage, facade and large supporting imagery for their Paricio • Picasso exhibition in New Bond Street, London.

The exhibition pairs contemporary Spanish artist, Pedro Paricio with  the dynamic and evocative Pablo Picasso, and was over two years in the making. ‘It saw Paricio take up the gauntlet through new paintings, sculptures, works on paper and print, that are both a dialogue with, and a homage to, one of the greatest artists in history.’ The show features works by both Paricio and Picasso.

We’ve worked with the gallery previously, including signage and imagery for their hugely successful Bob Dylan lyrics and drawings exhibition, Mondo Scripto, in 2018.

Even though we were familiar with the space, we had an on-site meeting with the team at the Halcyon to discuss requirements and the layout of the latest show. This included the building facade which we had been requested to apply graphics to for this particular exhibition.

The gallery sits across three levels with graphics throughout. The show uses a mix of description text produced using cut vinyl decals, a number of large floor to ceiling printed images of both artists, as well as a 6 x 3m full wall mural on the upper gallery, all produced using removalable self-adhesive vinyl. The signage integrates seamlessly into the exhibition and adds additional content and context, both lyrically and photographically, for the viewer

Without a doubt, the most challenging part of the job was to successfully cover the outside facade of the building. The gallery is an old building with a beautiful internal staircase, atrium, and at its entrance, stone columns and wooden window frames on either side of the doorway.

To produce the graphics we used environmentally friendly latex inks to print to a heavy-duty conformable vinyl suitable for outside use. Latex inks do not emit hazardous VOCs (Volatile  Organic Compounds) gases, which are harmful to the environment, and are also odour free.

The material is installed by used a heat gun to warm the vinyl and effectively warp it around the surface edges. So with some time and care you can wrap almost any type of building, even an intricate facade constructed in the 18th century.

We’re well versed in gallery and exhibition signage and graphics, and have a plethora of methods and substrates to produce and install graphics to any location. These include materials for internal and external usage, for walls, windows, ceilings and floors and include a wide range of eco-friendly products too.
