Conran Shop x Charlotte & Philip Colbert

In the summer of 2024, we produced and installed this great-looking display for The Conran Store, Sloane Square, and their Modern Surrealism collaboration with the Colberts – artist and filmmaker Charlotte Colbert, and pop artist Philip Colbert, who launched their limited-edition product range with a colourful pop-up at The Conran Shop.

The launch, whose graphics we were responsible for, brought art and surrealism into the Conran design brand’s flagship store on Sloane Square. The takeover featured an array of fun pieces including furniture, sculptures, crockery, linens and scented candles, alongside larger pieces from the artists’ design portfolio including Charlotte’s ‘Love Bed’ and ‘Eye-conic’ Eye Chairs as well as Philip’s Lobster Chair and Telephone, and the iconic hunt paintings, that have been shown in museums worldwide.

Housed on the ground floor at The Conran Shop’s Sloane Square location, the pop-up was split into two room setups, one each to show Charlotte and Philip’s iconic design pieces.

So, to complement the products and art, the pop-up required us to produce a whole host of graphics for the Conran Shop pop-up display. Their aim, to highlight and showcase Charlotte’s romantic, and perhaps whimsical, collection, and Philip’s primary colours pop-art creative.

These included printed floor lino suitable for the Colbert’s products to stand on, and for the public to walk on safely; optically clear full colour with white ink graphics appeared on the windows to entice passers-by inside; full cover bespoke wallpaper drops; print and cut decals; free-standing graphics, and printed interior wall vinyl.

With VM displays like this, sometimes it’s the detail that goes unnoticed. For example, it was important to consider the production material’s smooth texture and finish, which were chosen to sit harmoniously alongside the physical Colbert pieces on display. Also, because of the specific colours involved, each printed graphic was carefully colour matched to the products featured in-store, helping to create a seamless and brilliantly bold display.

With the products dressed and in place, the display is so fun, eye-catching, and inviting. In the age of more and more digitally led displays, pop-ups and collaborations like this really show the importance, and dare we say, the ‘art’ of a well-styled and well-executed visual merchandising display installation.
